Group PPT Presentation – Week 10

Topic: Identify a company that has recently undertaken some major changes in its operations (for example, a major takeover or restructuring).

Discuss the characteristics of such changes and analyse whether they were successful or not.

You have to find a news item that was published in the business media no longer than two months ago to illustrate the topic of the class assigned for your presentation.

You have to prepare a PPT presentation and give it to your lecturer at the beginning of the class when your presentation is due.

You should explain the following guidelines when presenting your news item:

1.    The source or sources that published the news item.

2.    A brief summary of the event (e.g. recent news on a corruption scandal in an organisation, a breakdown of governance, rising prices and interest rates, slowing foreign direct investment, portfolio outflows and surging commodity prices. How would the organisation respond to this situation in the long and short term?).

3.    How does the news item illustrate the topic assigned for your presentation?

4.What can be learnt from the event? How does this event (the news item) contribute to a better understanding of the topic assigned for your presentation?

5.    Can you predict the further development of the situation? What might happen next?

The presentation is limited to 20 minutes only. The criteria for assessment are as follows:

A. The ability to utilise the concepts and tools of strategic analysis in a competent fashion. You should not repeat lectures or textbook chapters; instead, you should illustrate selected concepts of the assigned topic by applying it to the real world setting;

B. The ability to identify the right resources (news items, media reports, articles).

C. The degree of preparation, professionalism, energy, enthusiasm and skills demonstrated in delivering the presentation.

D. The ability to answer questions after the presentation.
