This is a summative
assessment, which requires each student to have adequate practice prior
to undertaking this assessment.

Unit Summary:
|
This
unit describes the skills and knowledge required to manage all aspects of
recruitment selection and induction processes in accordance with
organisational policies and procedures.
It
applies to individuals or human resource personnel who take responsibility
for managing aspects of selecting new staff and orientating those staff in
their new positions. It is not assumed that the individual will be directly involved
in the selection processes themselves, although this may well be the case.
No licensing, legislative or certification
requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

ASSESSMENT 1
To complete this task, you will need to consider a
business that has a current and future recruitment need. You may use one of your own choice, or your
assessor will allocate one to you.
· If you
choose your own business, you will need to identify your own strategic and
operational plans, along with relevant policies and procedures.
· If you
choose to use the business allocated by your assessor, you will be provided
with these documents, and your assessor will be available to perform the role
of your supervisor to answer any questions throughout this task
You are to develop a recruitment, selection and
induction process for new recruits into your organisation / department. Document your process so that it covers the
points below. Be sure to:
§ Analyse strategic and operational plans and
policies to identify existing policies and objectives
§ Arrange a time to meet with your manager
(role-played by your assessor) to discuss potential future HR needs based on
the direction of the company
§ Develop comprehensive policies, procedures
and supporting documents for:
§ Recruitment
§ Selection
§ Induction
§ Ensure you consider available technology to
streamline the recruitment process
§ Trial and measure against your objectives

It is important that you test each form for
appropriateness, accuracy and flow. When
doing so, you must record the testing undertaken, and provide this to your
assessor with your submission
Evidence summary | You are to:

Submit
your complete recruitment, selection and induction process, along with all
supporting document.
· Test
your procedures / forms to make sure they are complete, and a report explaining
the process undertaken, along with the updates made.
· Explain
you policies and procedures to your assessor, and gain approval for
implementation.
ASSESSMENT 2
Following assessment 1, you are to implement your
recruitment process within the organisation / department. This task will be undertaken in a simulated
environment, as outlined below:
PART A
Your first step is to prepare for the recruitment
process. Following your policies and procedures developed in Assessment 1, you
are to:

Select
1 of the positions identified during your discussions with your assessor during
assessment 1
·
Develop
a position
descriptor for the vacancy
·
Identify the personnel specifications for this vacancy
·
Develop job advertisements for at least 2 media streams
·
Detail the cost involved with lodging both job advertisements
·
Develop
relevant interview questions
·
Develop
a selection criteria to follow
PART A | Evidence summary
· You
are to submit the above documentation to your assessor
before commencing Part B
PART B
Following Part A, you are to recruit and select a
person for this position. This requires
you to:
·
Take
the lead role within a selection panel (of 2)
·
Provide leadership and instruction to your fellow panel member
· Read the job applications received and shortlist applicants appropriately
(arrange interviews)
·
Conduct a job interview with 2 fellow students***1
·
Select the most suitable
candidate for the position (or explain why no candidate is suitable)
·
Contact
the students referee (to be role played by your assessor)
·
Prepare
a selection report for management approval
·
Negotiate
salary and employment conditions with successful candidate (your assessor will
provide you with a salary range that is appropriate to your position)
·
Advise
the successful candidate of the result in writing
·
Advise the unsuccessful candidate of the result in writing

Your assessor will allocate other students to play the role of the candidate,
whilst you perform the role of the employer.
It is important that you take this part seriously, as this is valuable
experience in both interviewing candidates AND applying for positions. Your assessor will observe this process closely! The expected duration for each interview must
be at least 15 minutes.

It is important that you take this role-play
seriously. Think of it as an opportunity
to practice for a real job interview, and to improve your interview skills.
PART B | Evidence summary
· Your
assessor will observe you conducting the interview and negotiating with the
successful applicant
· You
are to submit your selection report, the final letters to applicants, and an
email that advises your team of the new employee.
ASSESSMENT 3
Following Assessment 1, you are to run a training
session to the team leaders on how to prepare for and run the company induction
program (as developed in Assessment 1). The
expected duration of this meeting is approximately 20 minutes.
This will require you to prepare for and run a
training session making sure you:

Prepare a detailed induction checklist
·
Develop an induction book to be provided to
new employees
·
Explain and discuss induction policies and
procedures in detail
·
Instruct / mentor each person to ensure they
understand the induction policies and procedures
· Empower each team leader to embrace and
implement these procedures
· Ensure each team leader is able to prepare for
and conduct inductions effectively and properly
· Provide detailed training on how to
monitor and support probationary employees
It is important that you are prepared for this
session, ensuring you:

and provide relevant documentation / supporting materials to your team
Your assessor will observe you running the meeting.
Session Context
·
Each meeting will consist of yourself (running the
meeting), and at least 2 other people, who will role-play other team leaders. Other people may include trainers or students
from your course

Remember, you
will be required to both run the meeting, and role-play an employee (during
another students assessment), so be sure to perform at your best at all times.

ASSESSMENT 4
This assessment is focusing on your ability to
monitor, review and improve your induction process developed in Assessment 1,
and implemented in Assessment 3.
In order to determine the effectiveness of your
induction policy and procedures, including how they have been interviewed, you
will be required to interview several individuals within your
organisation. The purpose of these
interviews is to extract information from stakeholders to help you determine if
the process is meeting its objectives.
Your assessor will role-play your stakeholders, and
will be available by appointment for each interview.
You will only have one opportunity to speak to each
stakeholder, so it is important that you are fully prepared for each
interview. You will only receive answers
to questions asked.
You are to identify the 2 most important stakeholders
for this task, advise your trainer of whom they are, then arrange a time to
conduct each interview.
Once you have interviewed each stakeholder, you are to
reflect on the answers provided and make any refinements to your induction
policy, procedures or forms to reflect your improvements.
