Information Systems for Business Professionals
COIT20274 Information Systems for Business Professionals
In this assignment, we would like you to write
a business report to provide sound arguments and recommendations to a Case
Study organisation. You will demonstrate your research skills and your ability
to apply information systems theory.
You may work on this assignment on an
individual basis, or in a group of up to three students.
As the CIO of the case study organisation, your
brief is to provide your organisation with actionable recommendations. You do
this by addressing the Case Study questions from Assignment 1.
Ten References
Required
You will also demonstrate your ability to research
and use the references found in Assignment 1, plus references from further
research.
Please use the references you identified in
Assignment 1 plus five more references, making a minimum total of ten
references.
Your use of references should incorporate the
feedback you received from Assignment 1. For example, if a reference was marked
as inappropriate in assignment 1, then that reference should not be used in
Assignment 2. Please select a new reference to replace the inappropriate one.
Assignment 1 will not be marked again so do not re-submit it – the replacement reference(s) will be marked on its merits in
Assignment 2 with no further opportunity to change it.
Your references will be assessed for
appropriateness on aspects such as currency, coverage, relevance, authority and
objectivity.
Currency: Your references must be current, that is, within the last five years.
Authority: Your
references must include at least seven academic (scholarly) references from peer reviewed journals or conference proceedings.
All seven academic references must be available in full text from the CQUni
Library databases.
Some paper and online sources are not
acceptable as reference sources in research tasks. These include printed
encyclopaedias, popular magazines, newspapers general
websites such as Wikipedia, and student study
sites that publish papers in various study categories.
You may
use the following as general references:
Organisational web sites, and Your prescribed
textbook.
Report
Write a
3000-4000 word report that includes the following sections:
Title
page including the assignment title, a suitable
report title, your name and student
number, unit code and name, term and year, name of your tutor, due date,
and the date submitted.
Executive
Summary: state the purpose of
the report, summarise your major findings,
conclusions, and explicitly state your specific recommendations.
Place
this on its own page.
Introduction: state the purpose of the report, and outline
the content of the report.
Summary
and Recommendations: brief
wrap-up of your major points, and then
based on your discussion and analyses, state explicitly what your
recommendations are. Use appropriate headings in your report, but do not present
your discussion in question/answer format.
Reference
List: a complete reference
list at the end of the report using Harvard
referencing style. Place this on its own page.
Do not discuss hardware and software
specifications, such as memory or response times. You must focus on addressing
the concerns of management as detailed in the Case Study Questions, in a way
that is understandable by non-technical managers.
Make any assumptions that you find necessary;
however, be sure to state your assumptions within the report.
There is no single “correct” solution for the report. It is possible for
students to make different recommendations. What is crucial is that the
argument presented is logical and consistent, and clearly addresses the Case
Study Questions.
Other Report Formatting Requirements
Header:
assignment title, centred, and page number, right aligned
Footer: student ID and your last name, left
aligned, and unit code/term/year, right aligned
The header and footer should start from the
page containing the ‘Introduction’ heading. Use section breaks to control this.
Text formatting: Times New Roman, 12pt., single-spaced.
You may use appropriate emphasis such as bold and italics. Do not underscore any text unless it is a URL.
Paragraph formatting: left aligned, single spaced and 6 pt space after
each paragraph.
Page formatting: should be in A4, portrait
orientation, with 2.54cm margins. Do not number or bullet-point Headings and
Sub-headings.
Use CQUni Harvard
Referencing
Use CQUni Harvard referencing style for in-text
referencing and for the References List. Check the University’s library web site for links to help with referencing and the CQUni
Harvard referencing guide.
Groupwork
You do not need to let your lecturer know if you form a group.
If you work in a group, include a self and peer
assessment rating out of ten for each member in your group. You can do this by
including a table such as the following in the coversheet of your submission:
Ming Yen
|
Serena Smith
|
Soon Li
|
Arishma Gupta
|
||
Rating
|
8
|
10
|

|
|
When rating yourself and others, try to consider
the overall quality of impact of the contributions of each individual. If you
do not include ratings, it will be assumed that you rate each member the same.
If your group splits, you need to inform your
lecturer and the unit coordinator as soon as possible. All work developed as a
group up until that point in time must be emailed to your lecturer and the unit
coordinator. You can then continue to complete the assignment separately. Your
final mark may be adjusted based on the groups you belonged to.
The following is indicative of the downloadable marking criteria sheet.
