Assessment one: Project Charter

Introduction

This assessment task (worth 15 percent of the total mark for the unit) requires you to take on the role of an IT Project Manager to produce a Project Charter for your employer, Victoria University Information Systems Consulting. In this instance the Charter provides a summary of a proposed project. It is being developed to provide the client with an overview of a proposed project so they can determine if they want to proceed with the project as stated in the Charter.

This is an individual assessment task that will be completed in your designated week 5 tutorial.

· Demonstrate knowledge and understanding on developing documentation for effective Project Management.

·         Identify, analyse and report the initial requirements of projects.

Problem Scenario

Your employer

You work as a project manager for an IS consulting firm based in Melbourne, Victoria University Information Systems Consulting (VUISC). You have worked there for four years, however the company has been in operation for several years. Being a consulting firm, the company has a range of employees including consultants, administrative staff, project managers, programmers, testers, business analysts and help-desk staff along with technical support staff who specialise in system implementation, technical writers and training with a focus on user training for professional development. The company also provides information systems consultancy and project management services as well.

·  For the purposes of this assessment task, please consider your   lecturer/tutor to be your operational managers. They can clarify any    queries you may have.

·       Your client

·    A detailed client scenario will be available on VU Collaborate (Week 5). It describes a client Yes Chemist Pty Ltd. They have asked VUISC to manage the implementation of SAP system.

Requirements

Review the scenario carefully before you start preparing your Charter. Ask your operational manager (tutor) if you have any questions or require any further clarifications about the scenario. Please use the Company’s (VUISC) Charter-Template docx by downloading it from VU Collaborate. Please complete every section of the template by removing prompts (and square brackets) and replacing them with your responses to the scenario.

• You may only refer to the scenario document; no other documents or notes may be used during the assessment.

• You may only access the IT Project Management unit shell during the assessment tutorial; no other browser windows or internet sources should be used.

Submission

This assessment task is due for submission at the end of your tutorial in week 5. Your tutor will ask you to cease typing and upload your submission 5 minutes prior to the finish of your class. Note that this submission requires the use of a template and the specific scenario provided. In some cases elevated similarity results may be acceptable. However, you must not have direct matches to the scenario document, internet sources or other student submissions in your work.
