The Scenario for Network Design
Assessment Tasks
Your
company in Australia specialises in designing networks for local and
international clients. Your company has signed a contract with a small supermarket
named Smiley located in Richmond, Australia to design their new network.
Smiley
has a manager and four staff members who undertake various tasks of the
supermarket. The manager has the task of managing the shopfloor and managing
finances and accounts. One staff member is responsible for purchasing and
stocks. Two of the staff members mainly work at the checkout cash registers.
The fourth staff member is the driver of the delivery vehicle of Smiley. When an order is received via the phone or
the Internet, Smiley relays that information to the delivery vehicle, and the
driver of the vehicle selects the goods from the small store maintained in the
vehicle and delivers them to the customer. Smiley keeps the record of the goods
in the store of the delivery vehicle in their computer and the database is
updated automatically.
Using
the top-down network design methodology, you are to design the networks of supermarket
and the delivery vehicle. You are allowed to make assumptions in relation to
business and technical goals if they are really required for undertaking your
network design. Each step of your network design should clearly explain and justify how you satisfy the business and technical goals.
