You are a retail manager for a local store that is headquartered in Auckland. You have alerted head office that there has been an increase in shoplifting in your area and it is impacting on your store. They have invited you to meet with senior management for a strategy meeting at headquarters. Store security has been flagged as a strategic issue for the company. When you return to your store, you discuss the new strategy in an operational meeting and create plans to combat shoplifting, implement your plans, alongside the required control processes.

In a team of 3-4, discuss this scenario in order to address the following questions. There is no written component for this part of the assessment – you will present your findings back to the class as if the class is the senior management team, and be marked on your oral presentation. Feel free to “flesh out” the scenario – you might want to identify the type of retail store and the type of goods that are being stolen. Might staff be involved?
